About

In early 2011, and after almost twenty years of teaching, I left the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama to concentrate wholly on lighting design.

I moved to Wales from my native Scotland in the mid eighties to study drama at Cardiff University. From there I worked for a number of theatres including Salisbury Playhouse, Dundee Rep and Northampton Royal. I returned to Cardiff in the early nineties to help establish a new writing company with Writer/Director Ian Rowlands. Theatr Y Byd toured the UK and to festivals throughout Europe, winning a number of awards and accolades, before closing in the mid 2000s.

Upon my return to Cardiff, I had also begun to teach at RWCMD on a part time basis. I became part of the full time staff and then head of department in 1999.During this time I maintained a freelance portfolio lighting shows for Theatr Y Byd, The Torch Theatre and North Wales Stage.

In 2006 I became Director of Drama, an administrative position coordinating three departments. As the paperwork grew, the freelance work diminished and I decided to take the plunge and return to a career in lighting.

I hope you enjoy the images in my portfolio.

Dave Roxburgh.
